The square in front of the museum complex
The museum is established in 1983 year aiming to become an information centre of the cultural and historical development of Strandzha region. The museum possesses five buildings and in three of them are exhibited expositions. The buildings are original, typical Strandzha creations of the local masters which made them very precious for the history of the Bulgarian Architecture.
The chronological order “back to the ancient days till nowadays” which is the usual way to exhibit expositions is destroyed. This is done thematically and the accent is put under these events and phenomena typical for the region. Here could be seen marble tombstones, sacrificial altars, a Greek inscription over columns, a marble statue of a Roman girl, two pediments of Thracian beehive tomb, ceramics.
The icon-painting is represented by some icons from XIX century, a creation of local Strandzha masters. They are distinguished and unique by their stylistics – mute colorings in which the dark green dominates, something not usual and typical for the icon-painting.
The national way of life is represented by the exposition of authentic objects, tools of labor, utensils and costume clothing.
The National Liberation movement is represented by copies of photos, documents and weapons in the complex. The historical countryside “Petrova niva” where every year by the memorial monument are gathered at about 50 000 people to give respect to the memory of the killed in Preobrazhensko uprising is represented there also. The historical museum of Malko Tarnovo town is included in the movement “The hundred national tourist places of interest”.
